Upcoming and Current Opportunities
Coat Drive - 9/29/24 through 10/20/24
As the temperatures start to cool off, bring coats, hats, and gloves for refugees in Denver and the unsheltered in Golden. We will be sharing men’s, women’s, and children’s coats for refugees with International Rescue Committee (IRC), and we will share men’s coats with the Golden United Methodist Church’s cold weather supply closet. Bring new or gently used coats, gloves, and hats to church and put them in the boxes outside the Great Hall and Historic Church. This coat drive will run from Sunday, September 29th through Sunday, October 20th.
Sharing the Table - Chili Cook-off Dinner 10/13/24
Do you have a chili recipe that you love? We invite you to share your chili with our Sharing the Table unhoused and housed friends in Golden, and they will taste-test and vote on their favorites. Everyone loves a chili cook off!
Either make it ahead of time at home, or bring the ingredients to the Calvary kitchen and the prep team will help you put it together, while also prepping cornbread, salad, and fruit in the Calvary kitchen after the 9:30am service (at about 10:40am).
Sign up for making your chili (at home or bring the ingredients and the prep team will help you put it together). You can go to https://calvarychurchgolden.ccbchurch.com/need_detail.php?need_id=169 to sign up to help prep the meal or serve the meal.
We will be serving the meal at the First United Methodist Church of Golden at 1500 Ford Street arriving at 5:00 to set up, or at 5:30 to enjoy the meal and visit with our unsheltered and sheltered friends and community members. Contact Vanessa Hayes at vanessa.wharton@gmail.com with questions.
Thanksgiving Boxes - 11/23/24
Fall is in the air! Calvary’s Annual Thanksgiving Food Box Distribution will take place on Saturday, November 23rd from 8:00-11:00am in the Great Hall at Calvary Church. We also need help with set-up, which happens on Thursday, November 21st. Follow this link to sign up to help pack and distribute the boxes. People of all ages are welcome!
Monetary donations allow us to purchase the food for the Thanksgiving Food Boxes, which will go to over 200 local families in need. The food for one family is about $30, and families also receive a $25 gift card to cover the cost of a turkey and extras. To donate online, click here and specify the amount you would like to donate. You can also place a check in the offering basket, or mail a check to the office, noted for Thanksgiving Food Boxes.

Ongoing Opportunities
Calvary Food Shelf (Open 10-3, M-Th)
Each month, members of Calvary are asked to bring a particular food item to help stock the Calvary Food Shelf (CFS) which is accessed by members of our community in need of food. Items are typically brought to the weekend services, or to the office during the week. If you’d like to provide financial support, which is always welcome, you can mail a check to the Calvary office, made out to the Golden Rescue Fund (note: CFS) or give online through the Calvary Church website. Contact Kirk Quackenbush at 720-290-3511 or quacks41@msn.com with any questions.

Calvary’s Refugee Ministry (HOME Team)
Calvary’s HOME Team welcomed the Qaderi Family from Afghanistan in February 2022 and the Abduljabbar Family from Iraq in May 2023. The Qaderi Family is a family of six living in Thornton, with four small children. The Abduljabbar Family is a family of three with a single mom and two sons situated in Lakewood. Both families enjoy meeting new people and would love to practice their English. If you would like to come alongside either of these families, or help with apartment set-up for new families coming to the Denver area, contact Carol Rose at zzzzcarol@aol.com or Shannon Campbell at shannon@calvarygolden.net.
Saint Francis Center Sunday
St. Francis Center (SFC) is a transformation hub for men and women who are homeless in the metro Denver area. It is a day shelter providing a myriad of services that enable people to meet their basic needs and to transition out of homelessness. Calvary coordinates volunteers to serve at this shelter during the week, and on the 4th Sunday morning of each month. If you are interested, please contact Kathie Gerwig atkdgedg2@gmail.com
Sharing the Table
Sharing the Table is a community partnership meant to build community support and friendship around the unsheltered in Golden. If you would like to join the community meal and help prepare food, contact Vanessa Hayes vanessa.wharton@gmail.com or Shannon Campbell shannon@calvarygolden.net
The Sharing the Table partnership is the new focus for the Calvary SOS (Safe Outdoor Space) Team. Let Vanessa or Shannon know if you'd like to join in on these wonderful opportunities.

Be a Tool
Calvary families and individuals partnered with Be a Tool and the Together Church of Golden for a wonderful day of hands-on support with local Golden residents in need! What a fun day it was! The teams worked at 5 different houses and completed all the needs given to us. It was a great time of fellowship and getting our hands in the mud and paint! We can't wait to invite our Calvary family into this wonderful work again next year.
