Lent

“I invite you, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.”

Resources for Lent

Calvary’s focus for Lent 2025 is the elimination of hurry in order to have more capacity to follow Christ and love others.

Every day—sometimes every moment—something is demanded of us, whether responding to emails, preparing a meal, or the next activity with family and friends. We are hurried beyond what is healthy and human.

Guided by John Mark Comer’s best selling book, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, join with others from Calvary to learn practices that lead to less hurry in our lives.

Two options for this 5-week long class:

—Sundays, 10:45am-11:45am, starting March 9

—Wednesdays, 6pm-8pm, starting March 12

Prayer and Fasting Together

Fasting is so much more than giving up chocolate for Lent. Fasting can be a life-giving spiritual practice whereby we refocus time and energy towards God by choosing to go without a regular activity or source of nourishment. Most commonly we think of fasting from food, but you may choose to fast from social media, television, or alcohol. Fasting is most commonly paired with prayer; dropping the one to provide time and focus for the other.
